QUARTERLY STAR PARISHIONER

3RD QUARTER 2021

STAR PARISHIONER OF ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S

Written by Betsy Taylor Calender

Hello everyone – meet St. Bartholomew’s 3rd Quarter 2021 STAR Parishioner  – Rob Palmer.

Before I go any further, let me please say a few words about this section for our readers. You do not have to have been a parishioner/member of this church for any set period of time in order to be a “Star”! Take a look back at our 2nd Quarter 2021 Star Parishioner, Esteban Caballero. He has only been a member for about 2 years. It’s just like life – you don’t have to live a long time in order to be a super, caring, contributing, loving individual to our society and make a mark.

So, on to Rob’s story.

Rob began to attend St. Bartholomew’s in 2019, but more regularly in December of 2020. Rob and his wife, Kasia, met in Germany where Rob spent 5 years.  Why Germany you ask? Well, both Rob & Kasia work for NIH. He, as a biologist, and she as a Librarian. Their daughter, Susanna, also lives locally and is a tutor/therapist for autistic children. Rob graduated from high school and college (U of M) in Minnesota and completed his graduate degree from FSU. He has been working at NIH for 20 years.

The thing he likes most about our church is the music! (Kudos to Lauren!!) As far as his personal music taste is concerned, he is very eclectic – loves Frank Sinatra to Led Zeppelin, Mel Torme, the B52s, Chet Baker and Frank Zappa.  Now THAT really is variety!

I love his favorite quote: “Somebody’s got to do it.”

If he were going on a vacation, (more than a one-day car ride away), it would be to Las Vegas, Key West or SE Asia – again, there is variety!!

When he was a child, he wanted to grow up to be either a policeman or a scientist. Well, he got a microscope in 4th grade, so I’m guessing it was a self -fulfilling prophecy that he ended up being a biologist.

Last but not least, when I asked him what he would go back in time and say to his 18-year-old self, his response was “Take life a bit more seriously. You are not young forever.”

I truly enjoy learning about all of our  parishioners, and I hope you do too.  Stay tuned in October for our 4th Quarter highlighted parishioner.  If you have someone you would like to nominate for this article, please feel free to send me an email at betsy.taylor710@gmail.com   I would love to hear from you.
