Welcome to March Featured Parishioner Of The Month, Randy Beans!

Written by Betsy Taylor

Meet Randy Beans, one of our 4 new vestry members for 2019, and a dedicated attendee at our 9:00 a.m. Sunday service. Randy is pictured above with his lovely wife, Pam and their 10 year-old son, Evan. His adult children, Katie & Ryan, both live in Virginia. The Beans family has been attending St. Bartholomews for about 1 ½ years now. After traveling to Baltimore each Sunday to attend Pam’s family church, they found themselves short on time one Sunday, so they decided to try St. Bartholomews.  After a warm welcome from Rev Linda at the front door, they instantly felt comfortable and have been attending ever since. Evan has even accepted the task of blowing out the candles at the end of the service!

The Beans family lives in Gaithersburg. Randy works as a consultant in IT and is currently working at the Marriott International office at the Rio in Gaithersburg. He was born and raised locally in Silver Spring and loves that he has most of his family still living in the area.

In his spare time, he is a Cub Scout leader for Pack 1323 (Laytonsville) for the past 5 years. He says it is fulfilling working with the young kids, helping them to become responsible, capable young adults. They actively participate in many community service efforts in the area including food drives, recycling campaigns, and cleanup projects.

Randy loves lots of different types of music, including Reggae & jazz.  He also loves Stevie Ray Vaughn, Dire Straits, 311, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Enya, depending on his mood. I would agree that his taste is very diverse!!

While their next family vacation will be to Seattle, Washington, Pam and Randy are planning their next vacation trip to Paris!

His favorite quote is from Mark Twain – “To succeed in life, you need two things, ignorance and confidence.”

And last, but certainly not least, I asked Randy the following question:

“If you could go back in time, what advice would you give to your 18 year-old self?”

(I laughed out loud [or LOL for the social media crowd!] at his answer.

ANSWER:  Go out to Bellevue, Washington, look up a young man named Bill Gates and lend him a few thousand dollars!
